What a Year at Comer Vet!
2025 is just around the corner, along with a new patient special ...

Why do we always recommend fecals?
A lot of people say, “No, their poop looks good. I’m not seeing any worms.”
Most people are not aware, but many “worms” are not visible in the stool! By the time you see worms, it is often severe, though the tapeworm is an exception to this general rule.
When we do fecal exams, we are looking for the microscopic eggs produced by intestinal parasites. This is what we are looking for:

From left: Hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm eggs
If we do fecal exams, we can usually catch problems before they become severe. In addition, we are seeing some resistance to dewormers in our area. If we don’t do fecals, we will not be aware that there is a problem until our pets are experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea or weight loss. So, next time we ask for permission to do a fecal, please say yes! We are trying to protect your family, pets and humans.
We’re ringing in the new year with a NEW PATIENT special!
